So, you’ve got the idea you’re in love with and you are ready to begin your new life as an entrepreneur. Maybe you’ve quit the 9-5 that was dragging you down, maybe you’ve just moved to part-time. Regardless of this, you’re ready to begin on the road to your passion, your dreams and your success.

We won’t lie to you, nor will we sugarcoat it - owning your own business is no walk in the park. It will be a time of uncertainty, a time of evolution and unfortunately a time filled with a lack of sleep. Yet, despite this it will be an era in which you fully become your own, and where both your mind, soul and body will undergo a variety of activities all centralised around your dream.

“A single event can awaken within us a stranger totally unknown to us.
To live is to be slowly born.”
-Antoine de Saint-Exuper

It might seem daunting, it almost comparable to taking a leap of faith into a dark lake. Who knows what the water holds? Yes it may hold something that forces you to confront your fears, but this in turn will allow you to grow as a person.

It may make you question yourself, question your current path and how it can be changed. But this should not scare you - if you do not question your actions, how else will you learn?

There is a lack of articles explaining the benefits of owning your own business, most simply highlight the fears surrounding it. Although these fears exist, it is important to be reminded why owning your business is so great. Being fully in control of your work-life while also thriving within a field you adore is the greatest benefit of owning your own business. There are many more benefits, such as;

  1. You are in control

  2. Flexibility

  3. You will love your work

  4. You directly get to enrich people’s lives

  5. And obviously… the paycheques aren’t too bad either

Taking the plunge and starting your own business is an adventure. But like any good adventurer, there are a few things you must do before you start out.

  1. Develop a message
What is it about your business that makes it stand out? It is important to fully understand the ideology behind your business. If you don’t fully believe in what you are selling, why should anybody else? Before you even begin to manufacture your item, determine what the item means. Once you develop a deep attachment and message behind your business, your passion for it will increase greatly.

  2. Research

The marketplace is a huge conglomerate. It is important you understand fully the market you are about to enter, whether that be hospitality, design or fashion. Knowing your new playing field inside out will give you a huge advantage. Demographics really are key in this step! Watch interviews, talk with existing business owners and understand every little desire of your customer base.

  3. Don’t over-do it

At the end of the day, you are human. While working all night on a cocktail of coffee, snacks and inspirational music might sound like what you need to do, never forget to rest. Knowing your limitations, both in terms of your time management and skills is important. By understanding when you need assistance, you will be in great stead for managing your business as it grows.

  4. Company is crucial

Make sure you are surrounding yourself with the right people, both friends and professionals. Nobody knows everything, take all the advice and tips you can. By listening to others, you can learn from their experience, or tailor your business accordingly.

Now, doing these four things will not suddenly shoot you to Amazon or Apple size. The most important thing you can have is passion. You could have all the time and money in the world, but if you do not love what you do, you won’t have the resiliency to persevere when things get tough.

Think of your business as a houseplant- it needs nourishment! Water your business with ideas and experience, allow it to grow and flourish. But most importantly, love it!

Modern society and the media present the ideology that dreams are always achieved, and that there will be a simple one track path that will lead you to achieve your wildest dreams.

Unfortunately, once you remove the glimmer and dust of Hollywood, you’ll soon realise that this is not reality. But maybe there is a way to get everything you want, or at least live a life closer to your authentic self and what makes you happy. And what if that all started with your mindset?

The only person standing in the way of your dreams is you. To reference an (albeit cliche) quote - “nothing is impossible”.

Although this might sound like something you would see written on the wall of a hipster yoga studio, there is some truth in it. Everything physical, such as money or clients can be obtained through hard work. But to get to this stage, you need to shift your mindset, and in turn continue on the path to success. But once you’ve reached all your superficial goals then what?

Whether you’re going through a period of transition or have simply hit all your goals and feel empty inside. When self doubt hits and your motivation is at an all time low, yup we’ve all been there.

However, as weeks and months pass, and nothing changes, it is paramount to realise nothing is handed to you on a plate. You must go out and get it yourself. Think to yourself…

“What is it that I actually want in life?”

Think deep, explore all your layers of thought and write out what it is you not just want but desire. Human beings are simplistic in their nature - if they want something, they have all the tools and resources they need to achieve it.

If you really want to achieve your dreams, develop a mindset that gets you what you want. Below are some of the characteristics seen in successful people living healthy fulfilled lives.

“Fear will steal our freedom. for what we fear establishes the boundaries of our freedom. what we fear has mastery over our soul.

anxiety is how your sould processes fear. you cannot control circumstances but you can control your character”

  1. Courageous

  2. Patient

  3. Focused

  4. Positive

  5. Always willing to learn

But how do we build these characteristics in us? There seems to be common trends amongst all religions, spiritual practices and modern day entrepreneurs of which we should all be conscious adopting now.

  1. A Deep Gratitude

Even if you don’t believe in spirituality or religion. It’s been proven that to live a life in peace, without anxiety, worries or doubt is through meditation. To accept things and let go what is not meant for you. We are ungrateful as humans. The universe has given everything to us without even asking. We are such ungrateful creatures that we don’t even bother to look around what existence is continually doing for us.

The sun, the moon, the stars, the animals, the birds and the people. You are living in a tremendously beautiful dream. But you have to be awake to it. People have found this gratefulness through religion. You don’t have to be a Christian or a Hindu to be religious. All that you need is a deep gratitude towards existence.

You don’t even have to believe in God or heaven or hell. Just a deep felt gratitude that this existence would have been missing something without you. This vast existence needed you, no-one else.

“You have to grow from the inside out.
There is no other teacher but your own soul.”
    -Swami Vivekananda

  2. Change Your Language

Language is perhaps the most important determiner when it comes to the self. Instead of the voice in your mind saying “I should send that email”, or “I should go to this talk”, change it to “I will go”. Avoid uncertain phrases.

Once you have mastered this in your internal conversations, bring it to the outside world. Speak of your accomplishments, as opposed to your failures. There is no shame in being proud of oneself. This will encourage a mindset of certainty.

  3. Change Your Social Circle

Every individual in your social circle has a unique personality, and undoubtedly some component of this personality would have rubbed off onto yourself. However, it is important to recognise who is beneficial to your dreams, and who is holding you back.

Life’s too valuable to hang out with people who don’t get you. Who you just don’t vibe with. Who have different values and lower standards than you do. Who have different Mindsets, Heartsets, Healthsets and Soulsets. It’s actually a miracle how POWERFULLY and PROFOUNDLY our influences and environments shape our lives and futures.

  4. Get Out Your Comfort Zone

Our brains can be trained. If you stay in the same routine, yes it is safe, but your brain will become complacent, and will not push itself. Similar to your gym routine - you wouldn’t do the same workout everyday every month, right? No, because your muscles would become accustom to this and therefore not develop.

Your mind is the same. Push yourself into situations you originally would not envision yourself to be in. Train your brain to adapt to the environment it is in.

You already have the deepest desires to achieve your dream life, or else you wouldn’t be reading this article. If you’re feeling like you want more in life or something is missing spend the time working on the above. Your thoughts determine your belief systems and your actions.

In turn, this will determine the way you conduct yourself in life. By cultivating a thought process of success, transforming failure into a learning curve and really believing in yourself, there is no reason for you to not achieve all you desire.

If you’re going through a personal or business strut and feel stuck and unfocused, we offer 1:1 business coaching to help you get more aligned with your goals and to get back on track to the life you’ve always dreamed of. Enquire now.

SEPTEMBER 26, 2019

Picture this…

Its 6am. There is a beautiful cacophony of bird song. The sunlight eases its way across your bed sheets like a sleepy cat stretching. You are beginning your day surrounded by the serenity of morning. And even better… your mind is serene.

Sounds like the perfect morning right? To begin your day, raring and ready to go, in a full survival mode is the ideal situation to be in once you open your eyes. However, life is not always like this. Life is a juggling act, and in a society that demands you to have many balls in the air, its bound to result in your dropping some.

Yet, with a few simple changes to your morning routine, you will thrive. Thriving is not just surviving, or getting on with the day. Thriving is being above your game, in a higher league of success. Thriving is developing yourself into the very best you can be. To thrive is to truly live.

The main benefits of waking up early are ;

  1. More hours in the day allotted to productivity.

  2. Reduces stress.

  3. You are less likely to forget something important.

  4. Sets the pace for the rest of the day.

  5. You feel fulfilled.

THRIVE (verb) - to grow, develop and become successful

So, to begin this new chapter of your life where you fully thrive, where should you start? At the beginning of course! Your morning routine is the most important routine you can have, as it sets the precedent for all over activities you will engage in throughout the remainder day. A morning routine is an investment in self development. Whether you work the classic 9-5 or are a creative entrepreneur, having a solid morning routine will create results.

“Most people on the planet today don’t think much of themselves, unfortunately. They evaluate their achievement by what they’ve collected versus by the character they’ve cultivated. They compare themselves to the orchestrated - and fake - highlight reels presented by the people they follow. They measure their self-worth by their net worth. This explains why the majority is sinking in the quicksand of uncertainty, boredom, distraction and complexity.”

- Robin Sharma

But how does one achieve such greatness? Through commitment, discipline, patience and hard work. All of which can be developed in a morning routine. There's a reason why they say the most successful people are early risers

So, below we will outline some useful techniques that will allow you to cultivate a routine that lets you incandescently THRIVE.

  1. Night-time prep

Night-time is surprisingly very important in creating the perfect morning routine. Try writing down three things you want to accomplish in the upcoming day. These could even be simple, such as brushing your hair or shaving your face. Ticking these simple tasks off will allow you to begin your day with a sense of accomplishment, something that will resonate with you throughout the rest of the day. Also, try writing three things you are grateful for. Even if you get woken up by noise outside, or a loud neighbour, seeing what is really important to you first thing will soften that rough start morning.

“Everyone holds his fortune in his own hands, like a sculptor the raw material he will fashion into a figure…The skill to hold the material into what we want must be learned and attentively cultivated” - Johann Wolfgang van Goethe

  2. Fuel yourself sensibly

It is no lie, breakfast really is the most important meal of the day. Your brain needs to eat, and gains its food from the nutrients you eat. Start your day with a glass of warm water, with or without lemon. This not only assists in digestion and prevents bloating, but allows your circulation to begin and flourish. The more blood pumping to your brain, the more proactive you will be!

  3. Meditation

Becoming proficient in meditation is no small feat. Being able to separate your mind from body and achieve Nirvana is a task only the honestly dedicated and trained can accomplish. However, no need to worry! Thanks to useful apps like Calm or Headspace, there is time to mediate even on the busiest morning. And, you don’t need to be a professional either! The app allows you to pick your experience level, and what you want to get out of your meditation. Learning to separate your mind from your emotions is very important - it will allow you to overcome stressful situations by thinking logically and coherently. Allowing your mind to rest and be empty also means you are not constantly obsessing over irrelevant things, and can focus on the important. P.s - the Crickets meditation sound on Calm is my favourite.

In short, a morning routine consists of two things ; planning and commitment. However, before you even begin the think about your routine , it is important to find out your personality type. How do these two things correlate? Well, according to Tai Lopez, there are four personality types that all require different things from their morning routine.

“My routine is there to serve as the building blocks for a successful day”

- Carly Stein

No one individual is the same. Therefore, nobody will have exactly the same morning routine. We can provide the over-arching steps that we feel are important , yet it is you who must fine-tune your routine to suit yourself.

So, what is MOST important is to firstly determine what morning routine will work best for you, and allow you to thrive. To do this, check out Tai Lopez’s podcast, available on itunes.
